The book Masaaki Hatsumi: Dojo Giga | Heaven, published in September 2018, features paintings by Masaaki Hatsumi, Soke（宗家) of the Bujinkan Dojo (武神館道場). Its theme is martial virtue and the painting subjects include Shinto and Buddhist deities, myths, and legendary heroes from Japan's martial history. It includes an essay and comments by Hatsumi Sensei (先生＝honorific in Japanese) and action photos of him teaching at his dojo (training center).
Toshitsugu Takamatsu, the 33rd Soke of Togakure Ryu ninjutsu, trained Hatsumi and appointed him Soke of these nine martial schools: ①Togakure Ryu, 34th Soke (戸隠流 第三十四代宗家) ; ②Shindenfudo Ryu, 26th Soke (神伝不動流 第二十六代宗家) ; ③Koto Ryu, 18th Soke (虎倒流 第十八代宗家) ; ④Takagiyoshin Ryu, 17th Soke (高木揚心流 第十七代宗家) ; ⑤Kukishinden Ryu, 28th Soke (九鬼神伝流 第二十八代宗家) ; ⑥Gyokko Ryu, 28th Soke (玉虎流 第二十八代宗家) ; ⑦Gikan Ryu, 15th Soke (義鑑流 第十五代宗家) ; ⑧Gyokushin Ryu, 21st Soke (玉心流 第二十一代宗家) ; ⑨Kumogakure Ryu, 14th Soke (雲隠流 第十四代宗家).
Training in the dojo with the 34th Soke of Togakure Ryu is an opportunity to connect with the martial tradition that began with Togakure Daisuke, the first Soke of Togakure Ryu, who served Kiso Yoshinaka (木曽義仲) nearly a thousand years ago. Viewing Hatsumi Sensei's paintings and hearing him speak is your opportunity to connect with this martial tradition!
Join us October 4th to meet Hatsumi Soke and hear him discuss his paintings and the martial tradition he shares at his dojo. Books will be available for purchase and we will offer door prizes. The evening will include a presentation, Q&A, and martial arts demonstrations.
A cocktail party where you can meet the author will start at 6:15 pm, followed by dinner at 6:45 pm (Menu: Grilled Chicken with Rock Salt and Lime / Seasonal Salad / Bread / Cheese Souffle Cake / Coffee or Tea) Drinks can be ordered on a cash basis from the bar in the room. Book Break charges are 2,100yen / 3,500yen (members / non-members) per person. The member price is applicable to members' guests.

To help us plan proper seating and food preparation, please reserve in advance, preferably by noon of the day of the event. Those without reservations will be turned away once available seats are filled. Reservations cancelled less than 24 hours in advance will be charged in full.

『初見良昭 道場戲画 天』は武神館道場 初見良昭宗家による武徳を主題とした画集で、神道や仏教の仏神、神話、日本武術史において重要な英雄などが登場します。初見宗家によるエッセイやコメント、さらに道場で指導される宗家の写真も掲載し、たいへん情報豊かなアートブックとなっています。
初見先生は戸隠流忍術第三十三代宗家である髙松寿嗣先生の指導を受け、以下の九流派の宗家に任命されました。

戸隠流忍術の始祖は木曽義仲に仕えた戸隠大助です。第三十四代初見宗家はその千年の歴史をもつ武道伝統を稽古を通して伝承されています。武道伝統そのものである初見宗家の戯画作品を鑑賞し、宗家の言葉を聞くことのできるこの貴重な機会にぜひご参加ください。
10月4日のこの会では、創作の背景や道場で伝えられている武道伝統について、初見宗家本人が語ります。本画集の販売や抽選による賞品贈呈も予定しております。画集のプレゼンテーションほか質疑応答、武術の実演も行います。心ゆくまでお楽しみください。
