William Ireton, a legendary hitmaker who, for many years, served as Warner Bros.’ representative in Japan, will speak about his latest book 日米映画の架け橋 ラストサムライ ２３９３億円の男 (Nichibei Eiga no Kakehashi Last Samurai 2393oku Yen no Otoko) written in Japanese language (published by Futabasha, 2026).
The book provides a detailed account of how Ireton helped transform films into major box-office successes, revealing the full scope of his work in film marketing and production. It also shares valuable behind-the-scenes stories from his interactions with global movie stars, acclaimed directors, and top-tier producers from both Japan and the United States. In addition, the book explores the working philosophies of world-class professionals who "make the impossible possible" and offers insights into a borderless approach to business that breaks through conventional limitations.
Ireton was appointed Warner Bros.' representative in Japan in 1988 and led the distribution of globally successful blockbuster franchises such as The Matrix and Harry Potter series. Beginning in 2006, as CEO of Warner Entertainment Japan, he expanded the company's involvement in Japanese film production, serving as executive producer of the Rurouni Kenshin film series and other projects. The combined box-office revenue of the films he has overseen exceeds ¥239.3 billion.
After 26 years at Warner Bros., he founded Ireton Entertainment in 2015, and subsequently worked with Sony Pictures Japan as head of local language production from 2019 to 2023, after which he returned to his own firm. He continues to devote himself to the production of Japanese entertainment content for international audiences. He was born in Tokyo and graduated from Sophia University.
The Ireton family is also well known for its members' prominent roles across the entertainment and creative industries. Among them are a painter, the CEO of Yoshimoto USA, a front-office executive with a Major League Baseball organization, a screenwriter, and a professional working at Aniplex. In their respective fields, each has contributed to strengthening cultural ties between Japan and the United States, serving as a bridge between the two nations.
Doors open at 5:45 pm with a casual “meet the author/cocktail time” from 6:00 pm. Dinner will be served from 6:30 pm and the talk begins at 7:15 pm.
The menu is Salmon and Potato Salad, Chicken breast Cordon bleu Style, Bread, Dessert, Coffee or Tea. A vegetarian option is available. Please inform the club of food restrictions when reserving (front@fccj.or.jp). Price: 3,000 yen for members; 4,000 yen for non-members. Beverages can be purchased at the venue at just 550 yen per drink (non-members can purchase drink tickets at Reception).
Online attendance (Zoom) is available by reservation at 550 yen per person.

長年、ワーナーブラザース映画の日本代表を務め、“日米映画の架け橋”だった伝説のヒットメーカー、ウイリアム・アイアトンが、新著『日米映画の架け橋 ラストサムライ 2393億円の男』(2026年、双葉社) を語る。同書では、いかにして作品をメガヒットへと導いたか、その宣伝・製作の全貌を詳らかにし、日米の世界的スター、名監督、凄腕プロデューサーとの貴重な交流エピソードを紹介。「不可能を可能にする」世界の超一流たちの流儀、そして「限界を打ち破る」ボーダーレス仕事術についても明かす。
アイアトンは、1988年にワーナーブラザース映画の日本代表に就任後、『マトリックス』、『ハリー・ポッター』シリーズなどの世界的メガヒット作の配給を主導してきた。2006年からはワーナーエンターテイメントジャパン社長として、『るろうに剣心』シリーズの製作総指揮で日本映画製作事業を本格化。手掛けた作品の総興行収入は2393億円を超える。2019年から2023年はソニー・ピクチャーズ・ジャパン邦画制作部門の日本代表、そして、現在は2015年に設立したアイアトン・エンタテインメント社のトップとして、海外市場への日本の映像コンテンツ製作に尽力する。東京都出身、上智大学卒業。
アイアトン一家は、画家や吉本USAのCEO、メジャー球団フロント所属、脚本家、アニプレックス勤務など、家族がそれぞれの立場で、エンターテインメント・クリエイティブ界の第一線で「日米文化の架け橋」として活躍していることで知られる。
