CANCELLATION OF CARLOS GHOSN PRESS CONFERENCE
Carlos Ghosn, Former Nissan Motor Co. & Renault CEO and Chairman
Junichiro Hironaka, Carlos Ghosn's Defense Lawyer
Please be advised that the lawyers for Carlos Ghosn informed the FCCJ at 5:08 p.m. on June 28 that after Ghosn consulted with his family, he has decided to cancel the press conference scheduled for 9 p.m. this evening. We sincerely regret any inconvenience this has caused to all.
By way of explanation, the FCCJ was contacted by Ghosn's lawyers at around midday today and told that the press conference would be held this evening. This was confirmed through multiple phone calls with the lawyers and the FCCJ acted in good faith in making arrangements for the event at the Club and then making the announcement.
The FCCJ was then informed by the lawyers at 3:30 p.m. that Ghosn's "family and their media advisor" opposed the press conference and insisted on a meeting at 4 p.m. with Ghosn to discuss. The FCCJ has not been informed of the reasoning behind their opposition. A call to the media advisor Parker Allen at 4:30 p.m. was not picked up. The FCCJ was informed by the lawyers at 5:08 p.m. that the event had been cancelled.
Again, we sincerely regret the trouble this has caused to all, especially as journalists are preparing to cover the G-20 in Osaka. The FCCJ has made clear to the lawyers its disappointment with how this matter has been handled.
