"Are We Headed for Financial Market Mayhem?"
08:30-10:00 Thursday, April 9, 2026
(The speech and Q & A will be in English)

Financial markets are said to “discount” or anticipate economic events and to adjust stock and bond prices along with those of other financial assets accordingly. But how can markets foresee what is coming at this time of economic and geopolitical chaos, which is centred upon the new Gulf war, but which is fast spreading to impact major powers and all corners of the world.

As the IMF put it in a recent blog: “The war has unsettled financial markets. Global stock prices have declined, bond yields have risen across major advanced economies and many emerging markets, and volatility has increased. These moves have tightened financial conditions worldwide.”

What comes next for financial markets and for the global financial system? Deep Dive has assembled a team of experts to provide answers to this key question:

Paul Sheard: Noted Australian American economist and Harvard scholar and former Head of Global Economics and Research at Standard & Poor’s Ratings Services. Author of Wall Street Journal best-selling book The Power of Money.
Hung Tran: Non-Resident Senior Fellow at the Atlantic Council Geo-Economics Center, with experience across the private sector, international organisations, and research institutions. Former senior official at the IMF and with the Institute of International Finance (IIF).
Jesper Koll: Expert Director at Monex Group and an Investment Committee member of the Japan Catalyst Fund.
