Having been acclaimed for his unique style, Akai was invited to create the flower installation for the G8 Hokkaido Toyako Summit in 2008, the dedication of flowers for Ise Jingu Shrine’s Sengu periodical rebuilding ceremony, the presentation of a bouquet to Pope Benedict 16th, as well as the creation of an ornamental work of art for the hall of
Pope Paul VI. In 2024, he received a special commendation from the Japanese Commissioner for Cultural Affairs while Akai has just published his fascinating first collection of his works. He has his own museum in his native Osaka and a studio in Tokyo, and he regularly gives flower lessons to the wives of ambassadors in Japan and has been praised by them for the power and charm of his flower art.

大胆かつ繊細な感性で花と向き合う赤井氏は、咲き誇る華やかさから散りゆく儚さまで、肉眼では捉えきれない花の内なる生命の輝きを写真として昇華させています。北海道洞爺湖サミットでの装花、伊勢神宮式年遷宮の献花奉納、またローマ教皇ベネディクト16世へのブーケ献上、ローマ教皇パウロ6世ホールでのオブジェ制作など、独自のスタイルを展開し賞賛されています。2024年には、文化庁長官特別表彰もされました。彼の魅力の詰まった初作品集も刊行された。出身地・大阪に自身のミュージアム、東京にアトリエを持ち、また在日各国歴代大使夫人たちにも、瞬間の美を永遠の記憶へと昇華させる花の力と魅力を伝えるフラワーレッスンを行い、夫人たちから賞賛されています。
