Honoring Monzurul Huq
Japanese Foreign Minister Commendation Recipient
17:00 – 19:00 Saturday, September 27, 2025

Japanese Foreign Minister’s Commendations are seen as prestigious recognitions given to outstanding individuals and groups for their contribution in promoting Japan’s relationship with rest of the world. Each fiscal year, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs selects names of individuals and organizations for the award that serves as Japan’s official recognition of winners for their outstanding achievements in international fields. This year, the Commendations were awarded to 173 individuals and 58 groups. Those who were present in Japan attended a special award ceremony held on September 5, where Foreign Minister Iwaya Takeshi handed over certificates to the winners attending the event.

Though journalists and media personalities are also chosen as recipients of this prestigious recognition, however, no serving accredited foreign correspondent stationed in Japan has so far made it to the list. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has decided to break that deadlock in this fiscal year and has chosen the Tokyo Bureau Chief of Prothom Alo, a leading national daily of Bangladesh, as the first recipient from this specific group. Monzurul Huq is a well-known personality among FCCJ members. He served in the past as President of the Club and was also elected to various Board positions ranging from member of the Board of Directors to Kanji.

As a result, his selection as a recipient of this prestigious award can also be seen as an honor for the Club and to celebrate the occasion and also to congratulate our long-standing friend, the Club has decided to hold a commemorative event on Saturday, September 27, from 5pm - 7pm. The charge is 2,200 yen (including tax) and includes a light dinner, dessert and one drink. Please mark the date in your calendar and don’t miss the opportunity to congratulate your fellow Club member for bringing at long last this prestige and recognition to the doorsteps of the FCCJ.
Reserve at Reception 03-3211-3161, front@fccj.or.jp, cancellations after September 24 will be charged in full.
