International Women's Day: Trombonist Yuu Uesugi's Female Trio
18:30 - 21:00, March 8, 2025
With increasing awareness of violence and discrimination against women, especially in Japan and its media, it has never been more appropriate to celebrate International Women’s Day at the FCCJ - with a female trio of trombone, vocals, piano and vibraphone. On March 8, we are proud to welcome:
Yuu Uesugi (trombone, vocal) studied jazz trombone under Steve Davis and Shigeharu Mukai, and vocal training with Wilma de Oliveira, Gloria Terra and Miho Kosai. She has collaborated with numerous musicians in Japan and overseas and will also sing a Brazilian song or two.
Ami Fukui (pianist, composer, arranger) is highly regarded for her wide-ranging musical style, beautifully rich yet deeply groovy sound, and delicate yet firm touch. She is also actively involved in various musical ensembles with other musicians.
Kaori Nakajima (vibraphone) is known for her powerful and passionate solos, expressive ballads, and her ability to bring out the full charm of the vibraphone, weaving a wide range of emotions with dazzling four-mallet techniques. Her performances are highly acclaimed for their energy and artistry.
And remember SNL is free for FCCJ members! For guests & non-members, there is a 1,000 yen music charge, an incredible bargain for Tokyo entertainment. Please note the charge will apply to all guests and non members who are in the SNL venue at the commencement of the first set.
