International Women’s Day with
Trumpeter Aya Takazawa, Trombonist Yuu Uesugi & Pianist Ami Fukui

With increasing awareness of violence and discrimination against women, especially in Japan and its media, it has never been more appropriate to celebrate International Women’s Day at the FCCJ - with a spectacular female trio performing trumpet, trombone, vocals and piano:

Aya Takazawa (trumpet) started playing at the tender age of 10 and later graduated from the prestigious Kunitachi College of Music in Tokyo. She has performed at the commemoration ceremony of the United Nations Population Fund in New York, the New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival, and the Monterey Jazz Festival. Aya recorded for her major debut album with the family of legendary trumpeter and composer Wynton Marsalis, the artistic director of jazz at the Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts, in New York.

Yuu Uesugi (trombone, vocals) studied under Steve Davis, Shigeharu Mukai, Wilma de Oliveira, Gloria Terra and Miho Kosai, has collaborated with numerous musicians in Japan and overseas, and may also sing a Brazilian song or two.

Ami Fukui (pianist, composer, arranger) is highly regarded for her wide-ranging musical style, a beautifully rich yet deeply groovy sound, and delicate yet firm touch. She is also actively involved in various musical ensembles with other musicians.

And remember SNL is free for FCCJ members! For guests & non-members, there is a 1,000 yen music charge, an incredible bargain for Tokyo entertainment. Please note the charge will apply to all guests and non members who are in the SNL venue at any time after the commencement of the first set.
