Tatsuhiko Kodama MD, Ph D, Cancer and Metabolism Project Leader, Research Center for Advanced Science and Technology, University of Tokyo
Tatsuhiko Kodama leads the Cancer-Metabolism Project at the University of Tokyo's Research Center for Advanced Science and Technology. He will speak about a lockdown exit plan for Japan viewed from the abnormal immune response in COVID-19.
Kodama is a renowned system biomedicine specialist and has been advising the efforts to decontaminate areas affected by the Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Plant accident. Because of his efforts, Nature magazine named Kodama one of the 10 people who mattered in the world of science in 2011.
Kodama believes Japan is in a critical situation with its lockdown and that there is a need for large-scale testing (both PCR and antibody tests) because there are many hidden infected people in the general population. Precision medicine techniques to trace infected subjects are in dire need. He proposes that the government change its COVID-19 countermeasures to completely contain infections through tracing and at the same time partially reopen social activities.
