"Carlos Ghosn's Lawyers Speak Out"
Once Japan's most celebrated foreign businessman, Carlos Ghosn has not been seen in public since he was arrested after stepping off his private jet in Tokyo on November 19th. He has now spent over seven weeks in a detention center, where he is under investigation for allegedly misreporting his income and misusing assets at Nissan, the car-maker many believe he helped save. The lengthy detention, denial of bail, and Ghosn's rearrest last month has brought worldwide scrutiny of Japan's legal system and its powerful public prosecutors.
Ghosn's legal team has largely kept silent till now but his lawyer Motonari Otsuru, who once led the Special Investigation Team at the Tokyo District Public Prosecutors Office, has agreed to come to the FCCJ to discuss the case. Otsuru will also read out the statement by Ghosn, which the defendant is expected to address in person in the court hearing earlier the same day.
Otsuru will be joined by other members of the defense team, Go Kondo and Masato Oshikubo.
