"Combatting the New Coronavirus"

As of Friday, the death toll from the new coronavirus that originated in the central Chinese city of Wuhan stood at more than 200, with nearly 10,000 confirmed cases. These figures will likely continue to rise.

Cases have been reported across Asia, as well as in Europe and North America. The World Health Organization has declared the virus a public health emergency of international concern.

Professor Hiroshi Nishiura, a specialist in influenza and emerging viral infectious diseases, of Hokkaido University will come to the Club to give his assessment of the new virus, its severity, spread, and potential for mutations. He will also discuss other related issues, including ongoing research into cures and vaccinations.
