PRESS CONFERENCE
Fighting against unfair conditions in the sumo world
Daisuke Yanagihara, former sumo wrestler
Ryo Fukuhara & Ryo Shimada, lawyers
July 31, Monday, 13:00-14:00 (Press Conference)
The speech and Q & A will be in Japanese with English interpretation.
A former sumo wrestler is demanding 4.15 million yen in compensation from the Japan Sumo Association, claiming he was forced to choose between unsafe conditions during the COVID-19 pandemic and retirement. He filed a lawsuit against the association, citing the risk of contracting the virus while participating in tournaments and inadequate support from the association and his stablemaster.
Daisuke Yanagihara, 25, who wrestled under the name Kotokantetsu, filed the lawsuit against the Japan Sumo Association at the Matsudo branch of the Chiba District Court on March 2. He will be speaking about the lawsuit and the harsh conditions in the Sumo world.
