Fighting back against accusations of sexual impropriety
While accusations of sexual crimes in the entertainment industry have grabbed headlines, there are fewer stories of the accused fighting back. One of the exceptions is the film director Sion Sono.
When Sono faced accusations in the media of sexual assault, he sued a weekly magazine for defamation and reached a settlement. He has also sued individuals who he says have defamed and slandered him. Now, he will come to the Club to give his side of the story.
Sono has been described as "the most recognizable, if not the most universally celebrated, director in Japan," and he has won many awards, including Best Director at the Mainichi Film Concours. This time, he will speak on a very different topic that has recently overshadowed Japan's entertainment industry.
