Press Conference:
The 2020 U.S. Presidential Election and Japan
Glen S. Fukushima
Senior Fellow, Center for American Progress

12:00 - 13:00, October 28, 2020
(The speech and Q & A will be in English)
*Mr. Fukushima will join the event online.

Many Americans see the 2020 U.S. presidential election as the most consequential election of our lifetime. President Donald Trump and former Vice President Joe Biden represent two contrasting visions of America's future: "Make America Great Again" versus "A Battle to Restore the Soul of America." Which candidate wins on Nov. 3 will have a profound impact not only on American domestic policy but on American foreign policy and America's role in the world.  Mr. Fukushima will provide his assessment of the election's potential impact on US-Japan and regional relations based on his long career in academia, law, government, and business.

Glen S. Fukushima is a Senior Fellow at the Center for American Progress, a Washington, D.C. think tank. At Harvard University in the 1970s, he served as a Teaching Fellow for Professors Edwin Reischauer, Ezra Vogel, and David Riesman. At the Office of the U.S. Trade Representatives in the 1980s, he engaged in trade negotiations with Japan and China. And from 1990 to 2012, he was based in Tokyo as a business executive with one European and four American multinational corporations and served as President of the American Chamber of Commerce in Japan.  In 2012, he assumed his current position to analyze and recommend American policy toward Asia.
