"Japanese Students Marching in the Global Climate Strike"
Beginning this Friday, millions of children are expected to walk out of classrooms and join striking adults around the world to demand more aggressive action on climate change. The organizers of the Global Climate Strike (September 20-27) insist the climate crisis is an emergency - but that world leaders are not doing nearly enough.
"People everywhere are at risk if we let oil, coal and gas companies continue to pour more fuel on the fire," the protesters say.
Japan has been slow to respond to the climate debate - but this may be about to change. Japanese students plan to march on September 20th from the UN University, in Tokyo's Aoyama district. Today's speakers say this is just the start. Takuro Kajiwara is an 18-year-old university student and climate activist. Hiroto Inoue,19, is also a university student, a former intern at Greenpeace Japan and co-founder of Fridays for Future Tokyo. Saori Iwano is a high school student and a member of the Fridays for Future Tokyo creative team.
