PRESS CONFERENCE
Sakura Uchikoshi, Member of the House of Councillors
Kazuki Yuda, Touch Immigration Law Firm

13:30-14:30 Monday, June 8, 2026
The speech and Q & A will be in Japanese with English interpretation.

Like much of the world, Japan is tightening the rules on immigration. In her promised crackdown on foreign residents who break the law, the prime minister has made it tougher to obtain a Business Manager Visa.

The Foreign Correspondents' Club of Japan invites journalists and members to a press conference about these changes and their impact. Under the new rules, foreigners wishing to start a business in Japan must meet a much larger minimum capital requirement of 30 million yen and adopt stricter hiring conditions. Proponents want to go after non-citizens who get residence visas by setting up shell companies.

The Club will host two speakers who have warned the revisions hurt legitimate business owners at a time when Japan needs immigrant entrepreneurs. Sakura Uchikoshi is an Upper House parliamentarian from the opposition CDP who has raised the issue in the Diet. Kazuki Yuda is a managing partner at Touch Immigration law firm who has handled more than 100 consultations related to the changes. Please join us to hear them speak on a timely and important topic.
