Japan is rushing to catch up in a global race to develop artificial intelligence (AI), along with the enormous electricity and computing infrastructure needed to power it. SoftBank founder Masayoshi Son has staked his company's future on this revolutionary technology, and the person he looks for advice on AI is Yutaka Matsuo.
Matsuo, one of the nation's leading experts on machine learning, will visit the club to explain the potential of AI and its implications for Japan's economy and society. He chairs the government's AI Institutional Study Group and has served as an outside director at SoftBank Group since 2019. Matsuo earned a PhD in Engineering in 2002 from the University of Tokyo where he now serves as a graduate-level professor and previously conducted research at Stanford University.
