PRESS CONFERENCE
Japan's Role in the EV industry

Koji Endo, Managing Director, Head of Equity Research, SBI Securities Co., Ltd.
Christopher Richter, CLSA Securities Japan, Deputy Head of Research

11:00-12:00 Thursday, March 30, 2023
(The speech and Q & A will be in English.)

Beginning in April, Akio Toyoda will hand over the steering wheel at Toyota to Koji Sato, current president of Toyota's premium brand Lexus and Gazoo Racing. This change at the top of Toyota symbolizes a new era, not only for the world's largest automaker, but for the Japanese auto industry. Toyota, Honda, Nissan and others. are trying to catch up with the global trend toward electric vehicles (EVs).

The challenges are daunting, as the stakes are high for the companies and Japan. The pioneers of hybrid vehicles must shift to EVs more aggressively, as falling behind risks turning one of Japan's growth engines into a brake on the economy.

We invited two of Japan's most experienced auto analysts to lift the hood on the Japanese auto industry, and tell us how the automakers are prepared for the EV era. Koji Endo has covered the auto industry for many brokerages and is now director of equity research at SBI Securities. Christopher Richter will share his insights on the Japanese auto industry as managing director of the investment group CLSA. If you are interested in the future of the Japanese auto industry, please join us.
