PRESS CONFERENCE
Kim Yung-ho, Minister of Unification, Republic of Korea (ROK)

14:00-15:00 Thursday, April 10, 2025
Language: The speech will be in English and QA will be in Korean with English interpretation.

The long quest to reunify Korea

The desire for North and South Korea to be reunited as one nation has been on the agenda since it was arbitrarily split into two in the aftermath of World War II. Controlled by superpowers – the United States on one side, Russia/ China on the other – with opposing ideologies, the two sides soon became irreconcilable and the Korean War that ensued just cemented the split in place. This year marks the 80th anniversary of the end of World War II and the 80th anniversary of Korea's sad division.

South Korea has a Ministry of Unification, currently headed by Unification Minister Kim Yung-ho, who will come to the Club to explain the current situation and the chances – and perhaps ways – of unifying the two parts of the Korean Peninsula.
