PRESS CONFERENCE
Koike Yuriko, Governor of Tokyo
Tokyo’s Future and This Year’s Outlook
14:00-14:40 Tuesday, February 8, 2022
(The speech will be in English and Q & A will be in Japanese with English interpretation. Governor is joining the event remotely.)
Two years into the pandemic, Tokyo is experiencing its biggest-yet outbreak of the virus and is hovering on the brink of hospitalization levels that may prompt the government to declare a state of emergency. Japan's borders, meanwhile, remain firmly closed to new foreign entrants.
Nonetheless, 18 months into her second term in office, Tokyo Governor Yuriko Koike is seeking to press ahead with plans to bolster the capital's status as a global financial center, with the key words being "green" and "digital". COVID-19 has highlighted Japan's problems, Koike said in a recent interview. Come and hear from one of the country's most prominent female politicians about whether and how those problems can be resolved.
At the Governor's request, she will be taking part in the event remotely.
