With the world's highest average life expectancy and rapidly aging population, Japan has plenty to teach the world about living longer, healthier lives. Kyotango, in the northern part of Kyoto Prefecture, stands out: it has more than 200 centarians per 100,000 individuals, about three times Japan's national average. So it is fitting that the World Longevity Summit will be held in the city from June 16 to 19. Researchers and experts from around the planet will gather to discuss the secrets of wellness and longevity.
Through their branch hospitals in the area, doctors Hitoshi Yaku and Satoaki Matoba of Kyoto Prefectural University of Medicine, have been exploring the mechanisms of healthy longevity since 2017. They will discuss data from their proprietary "Kyotango Longevity Cohort Study", and offer recommendations on optimal medical treatments and innovative approaches at the FCCJ. They will be joined by Yasushi Nakayama, mayor of Kyotango to discuss the lifestyle, nature and climate of the region.
The summit is expected to attract researchers and food journalists on health and longevity from abroad. Health tourism and gastronomic experiences are also planned.
