PRESS CONFERENCE
Mikhail Yurievich Galuzin, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Russian Federation to Japan

11:30-12:30 Wednesday, February 2, 2022
(The speech and Q & A will be in English.)

The European security situation

Alarming media reports and statements of officials on the concentration of Russian troops near Ukrainian borders and the imminent threat of Russian aggression against Ukraine have dominated the news cycle in recent weeks.

While Russia insists that it has no plans to attack, Western countries have warned Moscow that severe economic sanctions would follow any military aggression against Ukraine, and the US and NATO have more or less rejected Russia's demands regarding security guarantees in Eastern Europe.

Russia's Ambassador to Japan Mikhail Galuzin will clarify Russia's stance towards these and other issues. He has just returned from Hokkaido where he discussed the possible resumption of trips of former Northern Territories' residents to the islands that remain a major subject of territorial dispute between two countries since the end of WWII.
