PRESS CONFERENCE
Japan's Winningest Boxer
Naoko Fujioka, Former Boxing 5 Division World Champion

11:00-12:00 Tuesday, June 23, 2026
Language: The speech and Q & A will be in Japanese with English interpretation.

Naoko Fujioka is arguably Japan's winningest boxer. She is the first Japanese – male or female – to be crowned world championship in five different weight divisions. On June 14, she will become the first Japanese woman to be inducted into the International Boxing Hall of Fame in Canastota, New York at a ceremony attended by fellow boxing great Sugar Ray Leonard.

The Foreign Correspondents' Club of Japan is pleased to host a press conference by Fujioka to mark her induction. She will speak about her career as one of the most accomplished boxers in the world and her achievements in a sport where the visibility of Japanese female athletes remains extremely low.

Renowned for her speed, Fujioka holds a record of 19-3-1 on the world stage with seven knockouts. With the induction, she joins other legendary women boxers such as Laila Ali, the daughter of iconic heavyweight champion Muhammad Ali. Born in 1975 in Miyagi Prefecture, Fujioka began amateur boxing in her 20s and turned pro at age 34 in 2009. Despite limited competitive opportunities for women, she set her sights on competing in the United States, taking four years to gain her first fight on American soil.

Please come to hear the personal story of this talented, determined and celebrated Japanese athlete.
