PRESS CONFERENCE
"A Journey for Leveling Up Korea-Japan Relations"

Park Cheol-Hee, Chancellor, Korea National Diplomatic Academy

May 16, Tuesday, 15:00-16:00 (Press Conference)
(The speech and Q & A will be in English.)

Park Cheol-Hee is the man of the moment in long-fraught ties between Japan and South Korea. A key adviser to conservative President Yoon Suk-Yeol, he's also the architect of a bid to mend the bilateral relationship by smoothing over a dispute over whether Japan has sufficiently compensated for its past colonization of the Korean Peninsula. The Chancellor of the Korea National Diplomatic Academy, Park has lauded the recent improvement in ties as a bulwark against threats from Pyongyang and a boost to economic leverage with China. Yet previous agreements to calm tensions over the past haven't lasted long, and polls show many South Koreans are unhappy with Yoon's stance. Before the Group of Seven summit in Hiroshima, come and hear the view from the inside on the significance of the rapprochement, and whether it is set to endure.
