Shoko Sasaki, Commissioner of Immigration Service Agency of Japan
Language: The speech and Q & A will be in Japanese with English interpretation.
Japan's Ministration Bureau has finally appointed its first commissioner of immigration. That's a sign that after years of keeping its drawbridge up, Japan is changing in the face of an unprecedented labor crunch.
Shoko Sasaki and her colleagues have their work cut out for them running Japan's immigration policy. New visa categories for workers were established under the controversial Immigration Control and Refugee Recognition Act passed into law last December, and tourist numbers are growing at breakneck speed.
Can the new immigration administration keep pace with these rapid changes? Will the new system be managed in a fair and reasonable manner? Sasaki will come to the Club to field these questions and more.
