PRESS CONFERENCE
The Strait of Hormuz Crisis and Japan
Keisuke Sadamori, International Energy Agency

11:00-12:00 Tuesday, June 30, 2026
Language: The speech and Q & A will be in English.

While the bombs have stopped falling for now, the U.S. and Israeli war on Iran continues to push the world into an energy crisis. The Strait of Hormuz remains largely closed, choking off the supply of petroleum used not only as fuel but also to make fertilizers and other vital products. Soaring energy prices have forced importers into renewables, to China's benefit.

What are the options for Japan, a country that remains heavily reliant on the Middle East for energy? To discuss the challenges faced by this country and the world, the FCCJ has invited Keisuke Sadamori, the director of the Office for Energy Markets and Security at the Paris-based International Energy Agency.

Sadamori has held this position since 2012. Prior to the joining the global agency, he was a deputy director general at the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry, which runs Japan's energy policy. During the accident at the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear plant, he served as an executive assistant to the prime minister.

Sadamori will speak on other energy challenges, including the war in Ukraine, climate change and a return to nuclear power. Please join us for a timely and informative press conference.
