14:00-15:00 Tuesday, March 26, 2024
Language: The speech and Q & A will be in Japanese with English interpretation

The first female leader of the Japan Communist Party

Tomoko Tamura, the first female leader of Japan's Communist Party, will reveal her plans for the JCP. She will also comment on the Kishida administration and the political scene.

Tamura has been a member of the House of Councillors since 2010 and has criticized the ruling Liberal Democratic Party's faltering attempts to bring women to the fore in politics and business.

In January, she replaced Kazuo Shii, who held the post for nearly 24 years.

Under Shii, the Communist Party mounted sustained opposition to the LDP, despite modest election results.
