Former SMAP member Tsuyoshi Kusanagi plays transgender nightclub worker Nagisa in the movie Midnight Swan, which is now showing in cinemas nationwide. Nagisa grew up in Hiroshima as a man and has come to live in Tokyo's Shinjuku nightlife district as a woman. She develops maternal instincts after she takes in her niece, a teenager and aspiring ballerina, who was kicked out of her home by her mother.

Nagisa is a fictional character drawn from extensive research, including interviews with more than 20 transgender women, by film director Eiji Uchida, whose credits include Netflix hit The Naked Director (2019). Kusanagi and Uchida will come to the FCCJ to speak about their experience making the film.
