It's election time, with the ruling Liberal Democratic Party and main opposition force, the Constitutional Democratic Party of Japan both having presidential elections at the end of September. Join us as two of Japan's top veteran political analysts, Chiyako Sato and Kenji Goto, offer their inside views on the state of both races and how Japan's political scene will change once the winners are decided.
Chiyako Sato is an Editorial Writer for the Mainichi Shimbun and a regular TV commentator on Japanese politics. She was the paper's first ever female head of its political department. Kenji Goto is a veteran political commentator who appears widely on television and in print media. He received the 2024 Japan National Press Club Award, given to individual journalists who have distinguished themselves with their reporting and critical activities, and have enhanced the credibility and authority of journalism.
