Now six years on from the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear disaster, global attention has shifted away decisively to other matters--Donald Trump, Brexit and possible trade wars. And yet, for those communities that existed in proximity to the ill-fated nuclear plant, it remains impossible to return to normal lives.
To stay away or to go home? It is an agonizing choice for many. Has the reduction in radiation levels made their hometowns safely habitable again, or will long-term exposure take a frightful toll of their health? And what about their childrens' health?
Yoshiko Aoki has become dedicated to telling the stories of these people, especially those from the Futaba district. She will explain what happened to the residents in the immediate wake of the disaster, including their actions, their thoughts, and their feelings. She will also bring us forward to the current day, offering a glimpse of the challenges and struggles that remain.
