North Korea's Missiles and Nukes: Bombs or Bombast?
Language: The speech and Q & A will be in English.
According to media reports, North Korea now has the capability of sending missiles to hit most of the United States. But reports on North Korea's military capabilities are invariably closer to speculation than fact. So far, we only know that North Korea's missiles can hit the Pacific Ocean. With a payload and a different trajectory, things may be different.
There's little doubt that North Korea's tactics are designed to give the impression that the isolated country is ready to go to war with its nemesis, the United States. The fallout from such a conflict would affect South Korea and Japan, but just how much of North Korea's threats are real – and how much is just posturing?
Lance Gatling, a descendant of the inventor of the Gatling gun, has spent most his life in the technology, security and armaments business and can offer concrete insights on how missiles and other weapons, or weapons delivery systems, function and what their capabilities are. He will come to the Club to offer an expert view on North Korea's capabilities.
Gatling is currently president of Nexial Research Inc. and defense analyst. Previously he held positions in defense firms, has consulted throughout Asia, and served on Japanese government space and technology advisory panels. He holds science, national security and public administration degrees from West Point and the U.S. Naval Postgraduate School. He retired from the U.S. Army and served in the U.S. Foreign Service. He is fluent in Japanese and holds black belts in multiple martial arts.
