"Natsuko Toda, Japan’s Subtitle Queen"
English-language film buffs in Japan need no introduction to Natsuko Toda. She has been called "the most famous film translator in Japan,” having produced Japanese subtitles for over 1,000 English films. Many were box office hits that became iconic or won major awards. Others were critical successes that found a smaller but devoted audience. Ms. Toda has won acclaim for her work. But as with any creative endeavor that must be completed on a tight deadline, she has faced occasional criticism for loose translations. Please join this FCCJ Professional Luncheon as Ms. Toda looks back on her long and storied career.
