China’s Major-country Diplomacy: Ideas and Practices
Language: The speech and Q & A will be in English
China is rarely out of the news lately, whether it is over the country's role in mediating in the North Korea crisis, its stance on Taiwan and Hong Kong, or with grand initiatives such as President Xi Jinping's One Belt-One Road (OBOR) project.
The world's second largest economy also appears to be emerging as a defender of free trade in the protectionist era of US president Donald Trump. Territorial disputes in the South and East China Seas also keep China in the public eye
But what are China's wider aims and ambitions under President Xi as the world's most populous nation extends its diplomatic and economic presence into virtually every corner of the world? Two seasoned experts from the world of diplomacy and academe will offer their views to the FCCJ in a relatively rare opportunity to get the "inside track" on Chinese official thinking.
Rong Ying is Vice President and Senior Research Fellow of China Institute of International Studies (CIIS). His main Research Fields: China's relationships with neighboring countries; political and security issues in South Asia.
