“Trump in Asia”

(Language: Speech and Q&A will be in English)

U.S. President Donald Trump's 12-day, five-nation swing through Asia received mixed reviews, ranging from tremendously successful" (his own) to "The Chinese leadership played the president like a fiddle" (Susan Rice, national security advisor in the Obama administration).

Ambassador Robert Orr, U.S. Ambassador to the Asian Development Bank and Obama administration appointee, will share his views about the trip and what it means for relations between the U.S. and the region moving forward.

Ambassador Orr, whose Asian Development Bank appointment brought with it the rank of ambassador, attended the annual Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation forum in Da Nang, Vietnam, where 21 Pacific Rim leaders gathered including the U.S. president. Prior to the summit, he spent several weeks traveling in Asia to the Philippines, Hong Kong, Thailand, Laos and Vietnam.

Expect Ambassador Orr to discuss the administration's positions on North Korea, the Trans-Pacific Partnership, and relations with Japan, China, South Korea ... the world.

Ambassador Orr is currently a board member of the Council of American Ambassadors. He previously served as president of Boeing Japan as well as vice president of Motorola Europe and Japan. He was an early supporter of a young Illinois state legislator, Barack Obama.
