King Lear is one of Shakespeare’s great tragedies. It depicts the gradual descent into madness of the title character, after he disposes of his kingdom giving bequests to two of his three daughters based on their flattery of him, bringing tragic consequences for all.
Derived from the legend of Leir of Britain, a mythological pre-Roman Celtic king, the play has been widely adapted for the stage and motion pictures, with the title role coveted by many of the world's most accomplished actors.
The BBC production, directed by Jonathan Miller, featured Michael Hordern as Lear, Gillian Barge as Goneril, Brenda Blethyn as Cordelia and Penelope Wilton as Regan.
Frank Middlemass plays Fool.
Introduction will be made by Professor Paul Snowden, Vice President of Kyorin University.
Tickets for a sumptuous lunch are 2,000 Yen per person and a cash bar is available for your choice of drinks. Cancellations after 6 p.m. Monday, October 16th, will be charged in full. Please make reservations through the Front Desk.
Doors open and cocktails at 11:45. Lunch is from 12:00. The play, with a short intermission, will end at approximately 4.30 p.m.

映画「海辺のリア」では仲代達矢の演じるリア王の狂気の名台詞が印象的ですが、これがそもそもの原点です。財産目当てでお世辞を言う姉娘たちと真実の愛を語らない末娘のコーデリア。老人問題、相続問題の方向を示す創作年1605年の現代的作品です。昼食代は2000円。飲み物は会場のバーでご注文下さい。10月16日（月）午後6時以降のキャンセルはフル・チャージとなります。
