Taku & Rei are longtime FCCJ favorites due to Rei’s sultry alto vocals & charming stage presence with Taku’s lush piano accompaniment. They are supported by bassist, Toshiyuki Kodaka.
Taku Yasumi, (Pianist/Arranger/Music Producer) played jazz piano while studying at the University of Minnesota where he had the good fortune to play with the University Jazz Ensemble, Jazz greats Curtis Fuller, Woody Herman and Deen Dodge. Returning to Japan, he balanced his love of jazz with his work for the Fulbright Scholar Program promoting international education exchange. Taku teamed up with Jazz vocalist Rei Hamada whom he met in the Yamaha Big Band. Surprise - Rei turned out to be the daughter of Taku’s classmate at the University of Minnesota!
Rei Hamada (https://rei-hamada.com/wp/) became a professional singer after studying Jazz Vocals with the famous Vocalist, Maria Eva. Rei actively performs in Jazz Clubs and events around Tokyo with a wide repertoire of Jazz, Pops, Chanson, Argentine Tango, and Screen Music, sung in 6 different languages! Rei has performed in New York, China, and on luxury cruises. She has released her CD entitled “16 Tons”. She produced the “Tango Special Night” event sponsored by the Agency for Cultural Affairs in 2021.
