The Arcoband is a jazz quartet, but instead of the lead instrument being trumpet or saxophone it is the bowed double bass (arco means bow in Italian.) A second bassist performs the usual accompanimental role along with piano and drums. The result is a sophisticated and very dynamic sound. The repertoire consists of jazz standards, Brazilian tunes, movie themes as well as original compositions that feature the range and sonority of the lead instrument.
