Based on Sawako Ariyoshi's famous novel, The Death of Kiyu the drama "Furu America ni Sodewa Nurasaji," was previously performed by such legendary actors as Haruko Sugimura and oyama Tamasaburo Bando in the role of O-sono, the narrator of the story.
Now Mao Daichi, the former Takarazuka top star, will take on the role of O-sono, a shamisen-playing geisha, who eventually helped to spread the sad story of an alleged love story of a young prostitute - Kiyu - who refused to accept a liaison with an American patron and killed herself to avoid the shame of a relationship with a foreigner.
Set in the years in which the Tokugawa rule came to an end and before the Meiji government came into power, the story - as spun by O-sono - attracts ultra-nationalistic anti-foreigner samurai groups to the geisha house.

幕末横浜の岩亀楼の女郎亀遊の純愛を攘夷論者の客寄に利用する楼主と図らずもそれに加担する三味線芸者のお園。有吉佐和子原作の戯曲を文学座では伝説の女優杉村春子が、歌舞伎では名女形坂東玉三郎が演じた三味線芸者お園を今回は元宝塚トップスターの大地真央が挑戦します。通常特別席13,000円のところプレスクラブ観劇会費は明治座のお食事（醍醐と飲み物）込みで15,000円。
