The Wonders Of UKIYO-E

For the month of July, the FCCJ Exhibition Committee is proud to welcome a rare and spectacular exhibition of Ukiyo-e prints meticulously reproduced for the club by Shunichi Kida, a pre-eminent “dye creative artist” active in Japan and abroad. With the theme of Mt Fuji, the Ukiyo-e artwork will be printed on large-format high-quality Japanese ‘washi’ rice paper so that visitors can enjoy these masterpieces down to the smallest detail. The world's most famous image by Hokusai Katsushika, “Thirty-six views of Mt. Fuji, Kanagawa-oki Namiura,” or the Ukiyo-e, a popular art form of the Edo period, is currently enjoying great popularity at home and abroad. Today, Ukiyo-e is appreciated in a variety of formats, including immersive events utilizing new digital technology and projection mapping, but the Ukiyo-e produced at the time were quite small. However, thanks to Kida's revolutionary technique of printing on washi paper, the prints can now be enlarged to cover a full wall, allowing viewers to clearly see not only the pictures, but also the skillful carving and printing techniques employed. Ukiyo-e greatly influenced Art Nouveau as well as the Impressionism Movement of the late 19th Century, most notably the works of Monet, Renoir and Van Gogh. Shunichi Kida, responsible for reproducing these magnificent works, is also an art producer who has created installations for art museums and spectacular event stages, airport displays and hotel lobbies around the world.

とくとご覧あれ 浮世絵を！

現在、全国で⼤⼈気の浮世絵ですが、７⽉の展示会では、 「染め擦りアーティスト」として国内外で活躍する木田俊⼀氏が特別に擦りおろした、特誂・浮世絵を展⽰いたします。 今回は、富⼠⼭をテーマに、浮世絵を⼤判の⾼質な和紙にプリントしましたので、名作を細部まで楽しんでいただけます。
世界で1、2を競う名画の誉たかい葛飾北斎の名作 『富嶽三⼗六景 神奈川沖浪裏』 いわゆる the Great Wave も⼤画⾯で登場し⾒る者を圧倒します。
現在、⼈気沸騰中の江⼾時代の庶⺠⽂化・浮世絵。
新しいデジタル技術を活かしたイマーシブなイベント、プロジェクション・マッピングと、様々なスタイルで鑑賞されていますが、当時制作された浮世絵はそれほど⼤きなものではありませんでした。
しかし、和紙にプリントとする⽊⽥の画期的な技術で⼤きく引き伸ばされたお陰で、絵のみでなく、彫り・刷りの技術の妙もはっきりと⾒ることができます。
「染め擦りアーティスト」として国内外で活躍する木田俊⼀⽒は、アートプロデューサーとして、国内外の美術館や華やかなイベントステージ、空港ロビーやホテルロビーのインスタレーションも⾏っています。
