Rhythm of Life in Japan As Seen Through Diplomats’ Eyes

For the month of May, the FCCJ presents a rare exhibition of photos taken by Japan-based diplomats titled "Rhythm of Life in Japan As Seen Through Diplomats’ Eyes.2025"
The exhibit features selected photographs from the annual ‘Japan - Ambassador’s Eye’ photo competition & exhibition that has, under the high patronage of Her Imperial Highness Princess Takamado, been open to diplomats and their families since 1998. On FCCJ walls, you will see the contributions of more than 50 diplomats from over 36 countries and regions, each offering a unique perspective on Japan.

By profession, diplomats are keen observers and during their time here, they visit many parts of the country as they get to know the culture and people. They are also equally intrigued by the unique ways in which this country has embraced the modern while preserving the traditional. The works in this exhibition artfully capture a multitude of cultural experiences and observations and we hope you enjoy them.
Supported by ambassadors in Japan, and Hirofumi Nakasone, Member of the House of Councillors and Head of Jury, the exhibition features photos that have received awards such as the Prince Takamado Memorial Prize and the Grand Prize. Over the past 27 years, the exhibition has toured around Japan to cities including Tokyo, Kobe, Yokohama and Hokkaido.
We thank the collection’s executive director and jury member of "Japan - Ambassadors’ Eyes" collection, Shinobu Abe, for his vision and for his compilation of these expressive works.

5月の FCCJ 写真展は、駐日外交官がとらえた日本の姿を、写真芸術を通じて表現するというユニークな試み
「にっぽん - 大使たちの視線2025」の入選作品を展示する事となりました。
36ヶ国以上50名以上の外交官の作品がFCCJの展示用の壁面に設置される予定になっております。

「にっぽん - 大使たちの視線」写真展は、駐日の外交官が目にする日常や、多くの人々を迎える日本国の姿を様々な視点で御紹介しており外交官は36ヶ国と地域より57名が参加。年を追うごとに写真技術・アート性が向上しています。
この写真展は、高円宮妃殿下名誉総裁の高配の下、中曽根弘文参議院議員・選考委員長ならびに駐日大使の協力を得て運営されるものです。
外交官は職務上、駐在する国の鋭敏な観察者で在任中にその国の各地を訪れ、人々の生活や文化に触れ、問題を共有し、経験を積むこととなります。
その経験が、各外交官の母国への関心事として写真に投影されるのが、この写真展の最大の特徴といえます。
