Why are China’s wealthiest entrepreneurs and liberal intellectuals increasingly viewing Japan not just as a destination, but as a "final sanctuary"? Since its release in January 2025, the investigative bestseller Run Ri (Toyo Keizai Inc.) has sparked a national debate. Author and journalist Takehiro Masutomo takes the stage at FCCJ to deliver a critical update on this historical tectonic shift.
In this session, Masutomo goes beyond his initial findings to explore the deepening impact of "Run-Ri Money." From the aggressive acquisition of luxury real estate in Tokyo to the controversial transformation of rural frontiers like Niseko and Hakuba, the footprint of new Chinese capital is expanding. He will also shed light on the burgeoning "educational migration" that is triggering a new breed of fierce competition in Japan’s elite school systems and Tokyo's emergence as a primary hub for Chinese liberal dissent following the decline of Hong Kong.
The discussion will pivot to the most pressing geopolitical and social developments of 2026: the rising friction under the Takaichi administration’s tightened immigration stance. As Japan pivots toward more rigid border controls and public order, Masutomo analyzes the mounting "friction and frustration" between the new settlers and a host society at a crossroads.

Takehiro Masutomo is a journalist, author, and Yale World Fellow. Fluent in Japanese, English, Chinese, and Bahasa Indonesia, he specializes in Asian current affairs. His book Run Ri has gone through seven printings in Japan and has been translated for the Taiwanese market. He is a regular commentator for NHK Radio and host of the Asia Frontline YouTube channel.

なぜ今、中国のエリートや知識人たちは、こぞって日本を目指すのか。2025年1月の発売以来、大きな反響を呼んでいるベストセラー『潤日（Run Ri）』（東洋経済新報社）の著者であり、ジャーナリストの舛友雄大氏が、今まさに日本で起きている歴史的な地殻変動の最前線を語る。
本イベントでは、舛友氏が100人を超える当事者への取材で明らかにした「潤日（ルンリー）」の実態に迫る。都心のタワーマンションを買い占める「潤日マネー」の威力から、ニセコや白馬などの地方都市で起きている変容、さらには教育移住がもたらす新たな受験戦争まで、その影響は多岐にわたる。
また、単なる富の移動にとどまらず、東京が香港に代わる「リベラルな中国人知識人の集結地」となりつつある現状や、高市早苗政権下で厳格化する外国人政策が、これらの新移民や日本社会にどのような摩擦と葛藤をもたらしているのかについても深く掘り下げる。日本にとって、この現象は新たな資本と才能の獲得か、それとも社会の変質への脅威か。アジア情勢の第一線で活躍する舛友氏が、多角的な視点から解き明かす。
【舛友雄大プロフィール】
ジャーナリスト、作家。イェール大学ワールドフェロー。中国、東南アジア情勢を専門とし、日本語、英語、中国語、インドネシア語の4ヶ国語を操る。2025年1月に出版された著書『潤日（Run Ri）』は、日本国内で重版7刷を数えるベストセラーとなり、台湾でも翻訳版が出版されるなど国際的な注目を集めている。NHKラジオ「マイあさ！」の解説員も務める。
