Japan's (and the world's) first yen-backed stablecoin has recently been introduced by fintech startup firm YPYC and several Japanese banks and possibly other entities are reportedly planning stablecoin issuance.

What are the implications of stablecoins in Japan and in the wider world - and are they safer than other forms of digital assets? Do they provide a path through the dense jungle of crypto assets?

A report released by Citi group in September said that volume of stablecoin issuance was $280 billion as of September, up from about $200 billion at the beginning of this year and from around $28 billion in 2020. It continues to grow rapidly.

Deep Dive has gathered a group of international experts to discuss in depth these crypto issues, which promise to become a feature of business and daily life in the near future. Do not miss the opportunity to get up to speed.

Paul Sheard: Noted Australian American economist and Harvard scholar and former Head of Global Economics and Research at Standard & Poor’s Ratings Services. Author of Wall Street Journal best-selling book The Power of Money.

Hung Tran: Non-resident senior fellow with the Atlantic Council’s Geo-Economics Center, with experience across the private sector, international organisations, and research institutions. Former senior official at the IMF and with the Institute of International Finance (IIF).

A third panelist is to be announced.
