A Special Event Celebrating Nagasaki’s Selection
in The New York Times' "52 Places to Go in 2026"
Nagasaki City was ranked 17th in The New York Times' "52 Places to Go in 2026," earning global recognition as one of the world’s must-visit destinations. To commemorate this prestigious distinction, Nagasaki City will host a special event entitled "Nagasaki Peace & Resilience," offering members of the international and domestic media an opportunity to experience firsthand the city’s unique historical legacy, layered cultural heritage, and rich culinary traditions.
For centuries, Nagasaki has cultivated a distinct identity as the center of Wakaran culture - a unique fusion of Japanese, Chinese and Western influences. The New York Times praised the city's remarkable resilience in overcoming the devastation of the atomic bombing, highlighting the coexistence of historical treasures dating back to the Edo period alongside living symbols of renewal, such as the 800-year-old camphor trees that continue to thrive today. The article recognized this spirit of recovery and vitality as a compelling reason for travelers around the world to visit Nagasaki now.
The evening will feature a presentation by Nagasaki Mayor Shiro Suzuki, along with a tasting experience showcasing Nagasaki’s culinary specialties. Guests will enjoy dishes featuring Nagasaki's signature farmed fish brands Yuko Madai and Yuko Shimaaji, raised on feed blended with the region's traditional yuko citrus fruit, as well as Fukusaya Castella sponge cake and a selection of Nagasaki beverages.

長崎市は、米国ニューヨーク・タイムズ紙が発表した「2026年に行くべき52ヶ所（52 Places to Go in 2026）」において、世界17位に選出されました。
この名誉ある評価を記念し、長崎市が持つ唯一無二の歴史的背景、重層的な文化、そして豊かな食の魅力を、国内外のメディア関係者の皆様へ直接ご紹介する特別イベント「Nagasaki Peace & Resilience」を開催いたします。
長崎市は、古くから日本・中国・西洋の文化が交差する「和華蘭（わからん）」文化の拠点として、独特のアイデンティティを築いてきました。
ニューヨーク・タイムズ紙は、被爆の惨禍を乗り越え、江戸時代からの歴史遺産や樹齢800年の大クスが現代の息遣いとともに共存する「復興と生命力」の美しさを、世界中の人々が今こそ訪れるべき理由として高く評価しています。
当日は、鈴木 史朗長崎市長によるプレゼンテーションをはじめ、長崎市の伝統柑橘「ゆうこう」をエサに混ぜて育てられたブランド養殖魚「ゆうこう真鯛」「ゆうこうシマアジ」などの料理、福砂屋のカステラ、長崎市のお酒の御提供も予定しております。
歴史の深みと、未来へ向かう力強いエネルギーに満ちた「長崎」を、ぜひ五感で体感していただければ幸いです。
