Paternity Harassment Suit”

Language: The speech and Q & A will be in English

An equity sales manager at Mitsubishi UFJ Morgan Stanley Securities Co. last week filed a harassment claim against the brokerage, asking a court to order the firm to withdraw its decision to put him on unpaid leave.

Glen Wood claims he was told to take leave without pay earlier this month and alleges he suffered two years of mistreatment after informing the firm that he was going to become a father, according to a petition filed to the Tokyo District Court.Only about 3 percent of fathers in Japan take advantage of a system that allows them to take up to a year off after the birth of a child. Prime Minister Shinzo Abe has called for men to be more involved in childcare to help their wives stay in employment after becoming mothers.

Wood will come to the club to discuss his case and the situation for fathers like him.

Wood has spent over 25 years in Asia and has worked at Goldman Sachs, Deutsche Bank, governmental think tanks, and the Council of Local Authorities for International Relations.

He holds an MBA in Finance from The Wharton School and an MA from The Lauder Institute at the University of Pennsylvania. He is a member the Pacific Council on International Policy and a board member of the Niagara Christian Collegiate.
