"The Truth About The Rohingya"

The speech and Q & A will be in Burmese with Japanese and English interpretation in relay

Myanmar has been entering the global headlines in recent weeks for unfortunate reasons. The country's Rohingya Muslim minority has reportedly been in conflict with the majority Buddhist government, and a large-scale refugee crisis has emerged as many Rohingya have crossed over the border into Bangladesh, giving alarming accounts of their experiences at the hands of the Myanmarese military forces.

State Chancellor Aung San Suu Kyi, the de facto leader of Myanmar, has largely been silent on the alleged human rights violations. As the recipient of the Nobel Peace Prize, she has been under strong criticism from international figures who have expected her to be more outspoken and proactive about bringing the situation under control.

Thurain Thant Zin is Myanmar's ambassador to Japan, and himself has a background in the country's military. He has agreed to come to the Club to explain the situation in Rakhine, Myanmar, as he and his government see it. Please join us for this discussion about one of Asia's most serious civil conflicts.

Please reserve in advance, 3211-3161 or on the website (still & TV cameras inclusive). Reservations and cancellations are not complete without confirmation.
