Victims and Lawyers are opposing the excution of former AUM members
Language: The speech and Q & A will be in Japanese with English interpretation
Seven of 13 former members of the AUM Shinrikyo cult on death row were transferred from the Tokyo detention center to other facilities on March 14th, raising speculation the State may be preparing to execute them.
The Japan Society for Cult Prevention and Recovery (JSCPR) strongly opposes the execution of 12 of the former AUM Shinrikyo members. It does not oppose the execution of the 13th member Chizuo Matsumoto aka Shoko Asahara who was the leader of the doomsday group when it carried out a deadly sarin gas attack on the Tokyo subway in 1995.
JSCPR has sent a message to the Minister of Justice requesting that the lives of the twelve be spared and their sentences commuted to life imprisonment. JSCPR members are holding a press conference to explain the message they sent to the Minster of Justice and why they decided to do so.
Speakers are Kimiaki Nishida, a social psychologist and expert on mind control and cults, and Chair Person of the JSCPR, Taro Takimoto who has represented the victims of Aum Shinrikyo and himself was attacked by poison gas, and board member of the JSCPR, and Takashi Yamaguchi, board member of the JSCPR.
