Saltire Rare Malt
"Masters of Malt" Whisky Presentation and Tasting
18:00 - 20:00, Friday June 20, 2025 (doors open 18:00)

The Food & Beverage Committee is pleased to announce a special whisky event where members and guests will have the rare opportunity to hear about whisky from an expert, and even better, sample drams from a selection of their fantastic range of specially aged whiskeys.

The story of Saltire Rare Malt begins with their great love for Scotch whisky and Scotland’s heritage of distilling. Purchasing young whiskey from celebrated Scottish distilleries, they carefully match the character of each whiskey to a variety of casks previously used in the making of bourbon, sherry and other fine liquors. The Saltire magic happens as they then periodically nose and taste the whiskeys over the next 14 - 17 or more years as they develop in Saltire's own facilities.

The Saltire collection has grown and matured, and is now ready to be shared more widely. Your FCCJ Food & Beverage Committee is pleased to welcome Nigel Heywood, a Saltire founding partner, and Ms. Ai Kuroda, a whisky expert and Saltire's distribution partner in Japan, to brief FCCJ members and their guests on the process of making and maturing Scotch malt whisky. They will also guide us through a tasting experience with samples from these five famous distilleries:

  • Caol Ila 17-year-old
  • Royal Brackla 17-year-old
  • Craigellachie 17-year-old
  • Benriach 14-year-old
  • Speyside 14-year-old

In addition to the above drams, everyone will enjoy a welcome drink of single malt scotch whisky crafted exclusively for highballs. A luxurious blend of malt whisky from a prestigious Speyside distillery matured in five types of sherry casks sourced from Jerez, Spain, it offers both structure and complexity.

Reserve now at club Reception 03-3211-3161, front@fccj.or.jp or online as drams (and seats) are limited. The event is on June 20, from 18:00-20:00 (presentation and tasting 18:30-19:30). Tickets are 2,750 yen for members and 3,300 for guests. Additional drams will be available to buy for members who wish to continue "sampling" after the event. Reservations cancelled after June 17 will be charged in full.
