Language: The speech and Q & A will be in Japanese with English interpretation

A freelance journalist, Kosuke Tsuneoka, is filing a lawsuit against the Japanese government to seek compensation for damage caused by a police raid, but he says his real intent is not to get money from the government but to make the responsibility clear in the wake of the kidnapping of Kenji Goto and Haruna Yukawa.

Tsuneoka, along with Ko Nakata, an Islamic scholar, was asked by ISIS to work as an interpreter for the trial of Goto and Yukawa. Tsuneoka hoped that he may be able to rescue Goto and Yukawa, but the government raided Tsuneoka and Nakata’s residence and seized their passports. Tsuneoka says the government’s intent was very clear; it wanted to prevent Tsuneoka and Nakata from going to Syria to take part in the trial.

By filing a lawsuit against the government in the form of seeking compensation for the damage caused by the police raid which made him unable to go abroad to work as a journalist, he wants to make the responsibility of the government clear about the death of Goto and Yukawa.
