Dear members,

The Finance Committee, Board of Directors, and General Manager offer our deep thanks for your overwhelming approval of our next budget at the March 25 General Membership Meeting, as well as unifying the consecutive term limits of directors. We don’t meet that frequently, but I regret to say that the GMM was disrupted, so a deeper BoD dialogue with the membership was impossible. Nonetheless, we aim to rectify that at our next meeting in June, as well as ensure an orderly process following all rules and proper decorum.

At the GMM I had wanted to express the BoD’s condolences on the passing of Yoshio Murakami, who served as a Club director and key member of a number of committees. We have been honored with the dedication of those such as Murakami-san over the years, and as I mentioned in my last note, there are only two months before our next elections. I would kindly ask all members to consider running for the Board of Directors in June, or to serve on one of our many committees. Working for this organization takes time, but it is a great way to expand your professional and personal networks, and the Club would deeply benefit from more members taking on leadership roles.

In terms of FCCJ committees, we will be relying heavily on our Food & Beverage team in coming months, as we begin the arduous process of finding a new vendor. We intend to have a thorough and transparent process that incorporates your opinions into the selection to create a seamless transition. I look forward to sharing more on those developments by our June meeting.

Finally, I would be remiss if I did not thank our hard-working and good-humored editor of the Number 1 Shimbun, Justin McCurry, who is stepping down at the end of April to work on a book. We will be looking for another editor by the summer, so please contact the BoD or interim editor David McNeill – he’ll be with Steve McClure at an FCCJ Book Break on April 14 – if you’re interested.

Best regards,

Dan Sloan
FCCJ President
