Issue:

Dear Membership:
The FCCJ election was concluded in mid-July. We are now in the process of finalizing our committee chair structure as well as board director liaisons, which we hope to share shortly. The committees generally meet monthly and range from Professional Activities to Food & Beverage, Publications and Freedom of the Press, from House & Property to Library and Workroom, Film, and Scholarship. I encourage all to consider offering your skills for the Club’s betterment as a committee member - it will be time well spent.
I sent an earlier note on the new composition of the board of directors in mid-July, but to recap:
- President: Dan Sloan
- First Vice President: Martin Fackler
- Second Vice President: Chris Gilbert
- Treasurer: Kai Hielscher
- Secretary: Masayuki Watanabe
- Directors Harry Dempsey, John Flanagan, Peter Lyon, and Michiyo Nakamoto
- Reserve Directors: Avi Gokool and David Umeda
- Kanji: Anthony Rowley and Simon Farrell.
Frankly, we have a lot to do, including building on fundraising efforts that began last year and saw mild success. We look to advance this with an even more engaging promotional campaign that leverages our prominent place in Japan’s media landscape. If you or your organization are interested in supporting the Club, please contact our General Manager Wayne Hunter, who has all the details.
Finally, August is a month for holidays for many in Japan, but our Club will remain open with activities and opportunities including great speakers and films, a new hallway exhibition, cold drinks and summer treats, and a warm welcome when next you visit. We look forward to seeing you soon.
Best regards,
Dan Sloan
FCCJ President
